When I was on a maternity leave I was searching for mum and baby exercise classes. I came across swimming class with infants and I was surprised about great effect on child’s development skills it has. I started with the swimming class when the baby was 7 months old. It wasn’t just about the extension of natural reflex of holding baby’s breath, but it was also about building the confidence of parents while holding their baby under water and letting them to jump and sink in to the water.
Water has gracious effect on the body. So, you can count on baby’s nap after the swimming class. What is even more important, you’re helping your baby develop motoric skills. They can keep their head up, they’re moving in the water even though they’re laying most of the time. Water stimulates the activity of neural development and affects the baby’s movements. Swimming classes have great effect also on psychic and social development of baby when you’re doing exercises in groups.
It’s quite a shock when you leave your baby to sink under water. But soon you realize that you’re training yourself and possible panic attacks. In slow motion you reach your baby under water and bring it to your smiley face. What I’ve learned is KEEP CALM and have fun in the water with your baby.
