Partizanska bolnica Franja

Partizanska bolnica Franja, Dolenji Novaki, Cerkno, Slovenia

Partisan Hospital Franja is a unique monument of humanity, comradeship and solidarity from the Second World War. As an illegal hospital, in the hard-to-reach Pasica gorge in Dolenji Novaki near Cerkno, it operated between December 1943 and May 1945. Most of the time, it was headed by the doctor Franja Bojc Bidovec, after which the hospital was named during the war. In addition to the staff, the surrounding population also contributed to the successful operation of the hospital, helping to build shacks, hiding the wounded at home and collecting food, medicines and other materials for them. After the war, the Franja Hospital became a symbol of the Slovenian Partisan health care and wounded, helpless and help needed.
